One of my favorite books to read at Valentines is My Heart is Like a Zoo. This precious book can be read to any elementary level and I love the fun activities your students can do with it. They can create their own zoo animals with heart shapes and use similes to describe each animal. Plus, you can use Google Slides™ to complete the activity.
1. Reading My Heart is Like a Zoo
First, read the book My Heart is Like a Zoo with your students. You can even show this short video so they can see how the animals evolved. Similes are used to describe each animal. This can give your students ideas in creating their own animal for the zoo.
2. Creating Heart Shaped Zoo Animals
Using Google Slides™, students can create their zoo animal. They can add heart shapes, tilt the hearts, send them the front or to the back, and change the color. Then, students can add details to the animal.
3. Write a simile about the animal.
A simile is a comparison of two unlike things. Students will write a simile about the animal.
