Did you know that there are over 2,500 different varieties of apples? They come in shades of yellow, red, and green and they are grown in all 50 states. There are also many learning activities that can be focused around this delicious and healthful fruit.
Here are a few engaging ways your students can learn about apples and the apple life cycle:
Making Applesauce
You just need a few ingredients for this hands-on activity. Your students will love cooking and eating their creations. They can use math for measuring the ingredients to make applesauce. This is a great opportunity for students to learn how to follow written directions and to write the steps in making applesauce.Investigating Apples
Give each student an apple. They can examine the physical features of the apple, weigh and measure their apple, and study the inside of the apple. As they do each activity, students can write down their findings.
Graphing Apples
Survey your students to find out their favorite type of apple and their favorite way to eat apples. You can even have different types of apple cubes available so students can have a taste test. Then students can complete the graphs from the results. Provide questions about their graphs.
Writing About Apples
After learning about the life cycle of the apple, students can write about the stages of the life cycle. They can learn about time and sequence transitional words needed in writing the steps of the life cycle.
